Development of a network of rural extension for food and nutritional security according to the farmer-to-farmer method

AIM: the project seeks to contribute to the training of local human resources and to employment generation for the improvement of living conditions of families of small producers in the western region of Guatemala.
ACTIVITIES: There have been six training events for technical personnel. Training for 60 promoters (ACE) in agroforestry and environmental community, members of organizations and communities. 218 monitoring visits and agricultural, forestry and environmental technical assistance, for promoters of community organizations. Creation of 2 Centers of Tourism Development in communities with ecotourism potential. Development of 120 events of agricultural training and 6 tours of farmer-to-farmer experience exchange. Create 75 sample diversification plots and 10 shelters for the production of vegetables and edible fungi. Perform 1.620 technical assistance visits to family production units. Provide seed capital funds for projects or productive activities to 4 community associations. Perform 2 training courses on basic carpentry and 1 advanced course of carpentry with the participation of 15 people.
IMPACT: We have trained local human resources and generated rural employment to improve food security in a sustainable way. We have improved the partnership capacity to impact on local development actions and marketing of agricultural products in the communities served. The institutions involved in the project have been strengthened
